Privacy Policy

Updated 05/16/2019

At sandraamiller.com, the official website for Sandra A. Miller, we take privacy seriously and do our part to protect your personal data.

To protect your personal data, we take reasonable precautions and follow industry best practices to make sure it is not inappropriately lost, misused, accessed, disclosed, altered or destroyed. We encrypt all data processed and collected through our website.

Cookies

We use cookies to help us provide a better user experience. You may choose to disable cookies using the tools in your browser; however, by doing so you may not be able to take advantage of all of the functions of our website.

Data We Collect

Visitor Data

When you visit and browse our website, your activity will be tracked by Google Analytics using a cookie. Your IP (Internet protocol) address will remain anonymous, so the data cannot be linked back to you. We also disable “data sharing”. The data collected includes your general location, your age group, your gender, your device type, your web browser type, and general topics of interest identified by Google. We use this data to improve user experience on our website.

We built our website on WordPress and use a host of services from Automattic, the creators of WordPress.

Comment Data

When you leave a comment on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also your IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment. If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. Some comments may be reviewed for spam by an automated system.

Contact Data

When you fill out a contact form on our website, we collect your name, email address, organization name, and phone number. Your data and message will be stored both in a database on our secure server hosted by Bluehost as well as in our email client. We will only use this information to contact you regarding the specific reason you filled out our contact form. We may retain your data and emails indefinitely for future reference.

Subscriber Data

You can choose to receive email updates from us when you subscribe to our mailing list through MailChimp. We will never automatically subscribe you to this service. We will collect your name and email address. You can update your preferences or unsubscribe from this list at any time by following the instructions at the bottom of any email messages you receive from us as a subscriber.

Data We Share

We do not share or sell your data with third-parties without your express consent.

Legal Purposes

We may disclose your personal information if we are required by law to do so.

Third-Party Services

In general, the third-party providers used by us will only collect, use and disclose your information to the extent necessary to allow them to perform the services they provide to us.

However, certain third-party service providers have their own privacy policies. For these providers, we recommend that you read their privacy policies so you can understand the manner in which these providers will handle your personal information.

In particular, remember that certain providers may be located in or have facilities that are located a different jurisdiction than either you or us. So if you elect to proceed with a transaction that involves the services of a third-party service provider, then your information may become subject to the laws of the jurisdiction(s) in which that service provider or its facilities are located.

WordPress Third-Party Services

We do use some WordPress plugins on this website that may pass data, including personal information, to external servers to process, such as Akismet Anti-Spam or Jetpack. We only use WordPress plugins that are hosted by WordPress.org, which clearly prohibits tracking of users without their explicit consent.

Embedded Content

We do not currently embed content on our website.

Your Data Once You Leave

We may link to other websites that will direct you away from our website. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites and encourage you to read their privacy statements. Once you leave our website or are redirected to a third-party website or application, you are no longer governed by this Privacy Policy.
